Botanical study, phytochemistry and antimicrobial activity of Tabebuia aurea: (with 1 table & 1 figure) Phyton
Barbosa-Filho,José Maria; Sampaio A Lima,Cláudia; Camorim,Elba Lúcia; de Sena,Kêsia Xisto FR; Almeida,Jackson Roberto GS; Vasconcelos L da-Cunha,Emídio; Silva,Marcelo S; Agra,Maria de Fátima; Braz-Filho,Raimundo.
We report morphodiagnosis, and phytochemical and antimicrobial investigations of Tabebuia aurea. It was noted that the leaves are compostas with anomocytic stomata only on the lower side; the vascular system is concentric andthe mesophyll arrangement is dorsiventral. From the stem bark eight compounds were isolated, including: lapachol, 3,4',5-trihydroxy-7-methoxyflavone, b-sitosterol, betulinic acid, p-anisic acid, veratric acid, methyl cinnamate and ethyl p-hydroxy-cinnamate. Antimicrobial assays showed growth inhibition the of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, alcohol-acid bacterium and fungi.

CHARACTERIZATION AND EVALUATION OF THE POTENTIAL USE OF SLUDGE FROM STP AND WTP IN PAVING REA
Lucena,Leda C.; Juca,José F. T.; Soares,Jorge B.; Barroso,Suelly H. A.; Portela,Manoel G..
ABSTRACT Water and sewage treatment plants (STP and WTP) generate as byproduct a significant amount of sludge with environment harmful elements. Sending to landfills or depositing on the ground or rivers are respectively expensive and dangerous alternatives. In this scenario, the use of this waste in paving processes is a promising alternative for disposal thereof. In this study, we focused on characterizing sludge and evaluating its use in paving, which showed satisfactory results for use in base and sub-base floors.

Chemical constituents of Aspergillus sp EJC08 isolated as endophyte from Bauhinia guianensis and their antimicrobial activity Anais da ABC (AABC)
Pinheiro,Eduardo A.A.; Carvalho,Josiwander M.; Santos,Diellem C.P. dos; Feitosa,André O.; Marinho,Patrícia S.B.; Guilhon,Giselle Maria S.P.; Santos,Lourivaldo S.; Souza,Afonso L.D. de; Marinho,Andrey M.R..
The present work reports the isolation of five compounds from Aspergillus sp EJC08 isolated as endophytic from Bauhinia guianensis, a tipical plant of the Amazon. The compounds ergosterol (1), ergosterol peroxide (2), mevalolactone (3), monomethylsulochrin (4) and trypacidin A (5) were isolated by chromatographic procedures and identified by spectral methods of 1D and 2D NMR and MS. Compounds 3, 4 and 5 were tested against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus and showed good activity.

Sugars, organic acids, minerals and lipids in jabuticaba Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Lima,Annete de Jesus Boari; Corrêa,Angelita Duarte; Dantas-Barros,Ana Maria; Nelson,David Lee; Amorim,Ana Carolina Lourenço.
The aim of this work was to determine the sugar, organic acid and mineral compositions of the whole fruit and fractions (skin, pulp and seed) of the Paulista (Plinia cauliflora) and Sabará (Plinia jaboticaba) jabuticaba tree genotypes, as well as the oil compositions of their skin and seeds. High levels of sugar, especially fructose, followed by glucose and sucrose, were encountered in the fruit. In the Paulista genotype, higher levels of total and reducing sugars were found in the pulp and skin, which was not observed when comparing the whole fruit of both genotypes. Five organic acids were found in the whole fruit and in the fractions of the two jabuticaba genotypes in quantitative order: citric acid > succinic acid > malic acid > oxalic acid...
